A Minnesota state senator was arrested early Monday on suspicion of first-degree burglary — hundreds of miles from her home turf.

Nicole Mitchell, a 49-year-old first-term Democrat who reps the Twin Cities suburbs of Woodbury and Maplewood, was taken into custody after a homeowner called police in Detroit Lakes — 220 miles to the northwest — to report an intruder, according to local reports. 

Mitchell, a former TV and radio meteorologist and a commander in the Air National Guard, was booked into the Becker County Jail, where she remained as of Monday afternoon, according to online records.

A Jewish Yale University student journalist reporting on an anti-Israeli protest at the Ivy League school Saturday night was stabbed in the eye with a Palestinian flag – while her assailant has gone unpunished.

Sahar Tartak, the editor-in-chief of the Yale Free Press, was covering the protest – which saw hundreds of students camping at the campus in support of Palestinians – when she was suddenly surrounded by demonstrators.

Tartak said she and a friend were singled out for wearing Hasidic Jewish attire as the crowd formed a blockade around them to interfere with their filming.

A young Brazilian woman working in Colorado through an exchange program was left paralyzed and fighting for her life in the hospital after she was infected by a rare bacteria, her family said.

Claudia de Albuquerque Celada, 23, was hospitalized on Feb. 17 suffering with paralysis, dizziness, double vision and shortness of breath — and diagnosed with botulism two weeks later, an associate of her family told the Aspen Daily News.

Embattled Columbia University President Minouche Shafik on Tuesday warned anti-Israel student protesters had until midnight to reach an agreement on a plan to dismantle their encampment — or else the school would “consider alternative options” to clear out the tent city.

Florida cops stopped a luxury yacht in the Florida Keys, which turned out to be smuggling 30 Haitian migrants into the US. 

Officers intercepted the yacht, operated by two smugglers, in an area of Key Biscayne off the south coast of Miami on Friday, detective Argemis Colome told the Miami Herald. 

Migrants were seen in a photo posted on social media by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) cramped into a room below deck on the 60-foot pleasure boat.



The Coast Guard continues returning migrants who travel via sea and are expected to return the latest group back to Haiti.
