The Los Angeles Rams appear to be parting ways with the ninth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

This Friday afternoon, ESPN's Adam Schefter announced that the Rams are "planning" to release linebacker Leonard Floyd later today.

The seven-year NFL veteran had spent the past three seasons in Los Angeles.

Floyd has been one of the more consistent producers in the Rams front seven since joining the team in 2020.

He tallied 10.5 sacks in his first season with the club, 9.5 in his 2021 campaign and 9.0 this past season. Floyd also logged an interception and two fumble recoveries during his Rams tenure.

Should the Los Angeles franchise go through with the plan to release Floyd today, it will save them $3.0 million in 2023 cap space . Interestingly, if the Rams waited until after June 1, releasing Floyd then would save the club $15.5 million, according to OverTheCap.com .

Floyd, 30, will likely become one of the most sought after linebackers in the 2023 free agent class. He's set to join fellow former Ram Bobby Wagner as apparent cap casualties this offseason.
