Dan Abrams Blasts MSNBC Hosts ‘Pathetic Refusal’ To Call Hamas Terrorists: ‘Shameful Pandering to Their Far Left Audience’

NewsNation host Dan Abrams tore into MSNBC for “whataboutisms and false equivalencies” in their coverage and commentary about the war between Israel and Hamas.

The Mediaite founder excoriated those in the media who reacted to Hamas’ slaughter and kidnapping of Israelis by shifting the conversation toward the Israeli government’s mistreatment of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. During a Monday night segment, Abrams held MSNBC culpable for this, calling out Ayman Mohyeldin’s “victim blaming” in saying that Hamas’ attack resulted from “ failed policies ” from Israel and the United States.

“Right. It’s Israel’s fault. It’s the United States fault,” Abrams said in a clear tone of disapproval and mockery. “The policies that somehow justify or even explain the slaughter, rapes, and kidnapping of innocent civilians. And that ridiculous commentary set the tone for much of MSNBC’s coverage throughout the weekend, where many hosts seemed determined to say, ‘Well, what about the Palestinians?'”

Abrams went on to name Mehdi Hasan and Ali Velshi , both of whom urged focus on what Israel will do to Palestine, even as Israel reels from an attack that just devastated the country. The tenor of MSNBC reached the point that Abrams acknowledged Anti-Defamation League director Jonathan Greenblatt calling out the network for their softened characterization of Hamas’ atrocities.

Notice how all of a sudden context and nuance are important for MSNBC, But when it’s a story that fits their political agenda — like, I don’t know, an officer-involved shooting — context and nuance go out the window. I mean, this is worse than just a double standard. Look, this is not a both-sides story, period… Since Saturday, MSNBC has made 441 references to Hamas militants or ‘the fighters.’ They are terrorists! Full stop! And MSNBC’s pathetic refusal to call them that is just shameful pandering to their far-left audience.

Abrams criticized Velshi, particularly, for the MSNBC’s host call for nuance amid the breaking story of the unprecedented massacre of innocent civilians, which Abrams reasonably interpreted as “He wants American politicians to better appreciate both sides.”

But Abrams did offer searing commentary on the overt politicization of this tragic story earlier in the show when he blasted the “both sides coverage” from the Left and the overt and finger-pointing from the Right, particularly that of former President Donald Trump.

“In every discussion about what Israel does now, those realities have to be remembered,” Abrams said about past atrocities that Jewish people have faced. “Particularly as the domestic political extremes push their own narratives about why this happened or who’s to blame. It’s pointless finger-pointing on the far-Left commentators and progressives, particularly those in the so-called squad in the House, who want to claim this is all part of a cycle of violence as if this horror should somehow be expected.”

But it wasn’t just the left that Abrams condemned. A clip of Trump’s recent commentary was then aired in which the former president said:

The atrocities we’re witnessing in Israel would never have happened if I was president, would never have ever happened when I was commander in chief. We reduced the Iranian economy and I withdrew from the disastrous Iran nuclear deal, impose the toughest ever sanctions on the regime, and imposed a strict travel ban.

“So counterproductive, the notion that these terrorists, including funding and help from Iran, would have somehow been cowed by Trump is a fantasy,” Abrams said. “Other Republicans and political commentators blaming the Biden administration for releasing $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets as part of a prisoner exchange debate. Whether that should have been done, fair, but don’t use that for political gain.”
