It’s becoming harder to buy anything at the grocery store without worrying about what it contains. The latest items of concern are spices. Even if you buy organic, it does not exclude you from this problem.

The food industry needs a serious overhaul in America. See what was recently discovered in a video shared on October 28:

🚨 Shocking Spice Scandal: Nearly 1/3 of spices from popular brands like McCormick, Walmart’s Great Value, and Trader Joe’s are tainted with dangerous levels of heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, and cadmium. Especially concerning are the results for oregano, thyme, cumin powder, paprika, and turmeric. 🧪 These heavy metals can wreak havoc on our health, causing serious issues like cancer and cognitive impairments in children. Yet, the FDA lacks specific regulations for heavy metals in spices, leaving the safety largely up to manufacturers. ⚖️ Major lawsuits are underway, but we consumers are left in the dark, unknowingly adding a dash of toxins to our meals. It’s a spicy issue indeed, with a bitter aftertaste of regulatory gaps and potential health risks. 🌿 Consumer Reports suggests growing your own basil, oregano, and thyme or choosing brands wisely, especially when it comes to cumin powder, paprika, and turmeric. Organic isn’t always safer, as both organic and conventional brands tested showed high levels of heavy metals. 📢 Let’s raise awareness, demand stricter FDA regulations, and make informed choices to keep our meals safe and savory! #toxicfree #toxinfree #toxinfreeliving #toxins #toxicproducts #healthyliving #healthyfood #heavymetalsinfood #spices #mccormick #walmart #traderjoes #wholefoods

Is anything safe anymore? TikTok user @ youngeryoudoc advises us to stop buying these dried spices from many popular brands. That’s because they found these herbs to contain high levels of heavy metals like lead. He explains that this is even true for organic products because the FDA doesn’t require testing for heavy metals.

The brands that tested positive for metals like arsenic, cadmium, and lead included McCormick, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Walmart, and more. This testing found especially concerning levels of metals in oregano, thyme, cumin, paprika, and turmeric. The spices that weren’t so concerning were black pepper, coriander, sesame seeds , saffron, white pepper, curry, and garlic powder.

He recommends either growing and drying your own herbs or buying them whole and grinding them yourself. This, he reports, is because most of the metal contamination happens during the processing and packaging. Yikes.

If spices are being contaminated during manufacturing, what about our other food items? He questions if this isn’t the reason lead poisoning is so prevalent in children. That’s an excellent point to consider. As they have not used lead paint in decades.

If you can grow your own spices, at least you can control what goes into them. Not to mention, they always taste better when they’re fresh.
