Former US Attorney Says Judge Has ‘No Intention’ of Letting Trump Classified Docs Case Advance

Trump appointee Judge Aileen Cannon slammed after denying motion to enforce case deadline

A former U.S. attorney has accused U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon of slow-walking former President Donald Trump's classified documents case.

"In the Mar-a-Lago case, Judge Cannon has just refused to enforce a routine deadline & it's entirely clear she has no intention of letting this case go to trial before the election or possibly ever," Joyce Alene, the former United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, wrote in a post on X.

Alene was responding to Cannon's ruling late Friday denying a motion from Special Counsel Jack Smith to compel Trump's defense to meet a disclosure deadline for the case that was initially intended to take place in May of this year.

Cannon is overseeing the case brought against Trump for allegedly illegally retaining classified documents after his presidency, then refusing to return them and lying to investigators.

Trump's strategy in his battle as he faces 91 felony charges in four different cases is to delay proceedings until he possibly wins the White House and will have pardon power in most of the cases, critics note.
