An Alabama child wounded during an interstate gun battle is recovering after surviving, for the second time, a shooting where he was not the intended target.

The 9-year-old boy is in stable condition at a local hospital following a shootout between the occupants of two vehicles on I-165 in Prichard, Alabama, Monday afternoon, according to the sheriff’s office, AL.com reported.

The incident marks the second time the child has survived a shooting where he was caught in the crossfire, the sheriff’s office said.

A 15-year-old girl was also killed during the shootout, in which the intended target was an 18-year-old sitting in the middle row of an SUV with both victims.

Sheriff Paul Burch described the incident as a “rolling gun battle,” according to WALA-TV .

“It’s just a continuation of these young people with these illegal firearms — shooting at each other going down the interstate — indiscriminately as to who was in the car,” said Burch. “Two young people shooting at each other is bad enough, but when you have two innocent victims who had nothing to do with it that are shot and then one killed — it’s just unforgivable.”

    No arrests have been made.
