Cathay Williams was the first African American woman to enlist and the only documented woman to serve in the United States Army, while disguised as a man, during the Indian Wars. Williams is also the only known female Buffalo Soldier.

A Denver City Council committee will consider Wednesday a $3.3 million contract with Catholic Charities through Dec. 31 to house migrant families at the Mullen House. “Under this agreement, Catholic Charities will staff Mullen Home in order to provide temporary housing, food provision, and support services to immigrant families who plan to stay as newcomers in Denver, as identified and referred from city emergency shelters,” according to a memo from the Department of Human Services to the Safety, Housing, Eductation and Homelessness Committee. “The services provided in this agreement provide temporary housing for approximately 200 people, including babies and children, across 90 units.”
