The latest Russian attacks on Western Ukraine have prompted NATO to scramble jets

NATO has heightened its alert level, placing fighter jets in the "highest state of readiness" in response to Russia's aggressive strikes in Western Ukraine. The Armed Forces Operational Command confirmed that allied air forces have commenced patrols over Polish airspace near the Ukrainian border.

The NATO command stated: "The steps taken are aimed at ensuring safety in areas bordering the threatened areas." Polish radar and reconnaissance systems have also been activated, with officials emphasizing their readiness to respond "immediately" if required. It comes as Trump finally turned on Putin and issued a two-word order to the Russian president .

Following the cessation of the Russian air force's long-range airstrikes on Ukrainian targets, military flights over Polish airspace have concluded, according to the post. Recently, the Kremlin's top spy chief named the NATO country that will be the "first to suffer" if WW3 breaks out .

It further noted: "Poland's air defense and radar systems, which had been activated in response, are now back to routine operations."

Officials confirmed that there were no violations of Polish airspace.

"The Polish Armed Forces continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine closely and remain on standby to safeguard national airspace."

In a separate incident, a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv resulted in nine fatalities and 70 injuries, including six children, as reported by Ukrainian officials on Thursday.

The Kyiv City Military Administration verified that at least 45 drones participated in the strike, with updated figures expected from Ukraine's Air Force later.

The attack occurred amidst a deadlock in peace negotiations, with President Donald Trump criticising President Volodymyr Zelensky for his refusal to surrender Crimea to Russia as part of a proposed peace agreement.

Rescue efforts were still underway early Thursday morning, with emergency personnel retrieving bodies from the rubble of collapsed buildings and providing care to the injured.

On April 15, UK fighter jets intercepted two Russian aircraft flying near NATO airspace, demonstrating the UK's commitment to NATO's enhanced Air Policing mission.

Two RAF Typhoons took off from Malbork Air Base in Poland to intercept a Russian Ilyushin Il-20M intelligence aircraft over the Baltic Sea.

Shortly after, a second scramble was initiated to intercept an unidentified aircraft departing from Kaliningrad airspace.

These incidents marked the RAF's first interceptions under Operation CHESSMAN, bolstering NATO's Eastern Flank alongside Sweden.
