Off-Grid - Below Zero - Soapstone Wood Stove is Broken As usual, with things on this modern off-grid homestead that you rely on, things break. Our Woodstock Soapstone Wood Stove broke, the cast iron bypass cover cracked right through. It will not properly seal the way it is, so we ordered a new one from the Woodstock Stove Company in New Hampshire. It's below zero, and this stove is our only heat in the home, so we were dreading doing this for fear of breaking bolts or not being able to remove parts. Luckily, we have an Ashley wood stove in the basement, but it's inefficient and eats wood like crazy. The stove company sent instructions, two bolts, and a small packet of never seize. They also have great instructions on their website to follow if needed. All in all, the repair went well, but while in there, we found that there were more parts worn out. As a result, the combuster and pan will need to be replaced in the future once we order the parts.
